Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily known for its objective of scoring goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. The most widely recognized variant globally is association football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, which has its own set of rules governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Football emphasizes skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting, along with teamwork and strategy. Players can use any part of their body except their arms and hands to control the ball, with the exception of goalkeepers, who can use their hands within a designated area. The sport is played at various levels, from amateur to professional, and includes prominent competitions like the FIFA World Cup, continental tournaments, and domestic leagues.

In many regions, the term “football” can also refer to other types of football games, such as American football, Canadian football, and Australian rules football, each with its unique rules and gameplay. However, in most contexts worldwide, football primarily denotes the sport of association football.
